Here’s the thing — every single one of us is born with the capacity for empathy. And behind every brand, there are people just like you and me. What if we channeled all that empathy to create brands that don’t just exist, but actually bring people closer together? Brands that inspire action, spark joy, deliver better business results, and leave the world just a little brighter. Sounds pretty amazing, right?
When I started Latshaw Marketing in 2015, I reflected on everything in my career to that point and I kept coming back to empathy as the one thing that makes brands successful — brands that don’t just make money for shareholders, but create meaning, value, and connection for employees, customers, partners, donors, anyone they touched!
So, I dove in. I read, researched, and honestly, obsessed over empathy. One thing I learned is that empathy doesn’t just happen at an organizational level. Leaders need to be super intentional — even systematic — about how they approach empathy.
That’s where Empathy in Action comes in. This systematic approach helps mission-driven organizations shape more empathetic brands, offerings, and communications. Dozens of for-profit and nonprofit businesses across many sectors have trusted me to lead them through the Empathy in Action process. Our clients include organizations focused on environmental conservation, education, technology, finance, creative services, culture, community, manufacturing, and more.
